How do I know if I'm in a contract ?

Contact your supplier and they will be able to advise you straight away as to whether you are on contract. If you are on contract, sign up to our free contract renewal reminder service and we’ll send you a reminder when you need to terminate your contract. If you’re not on contract use our system to find the best contract for your needs.

How do I know who currently supplies my energy ?

The easiest way to find out who currently supplies your energy is to check your most recent gas or electricity bill, or speak to the previous occupier. If you can’t find a bill, for gas call National Grid on 0845 601 3049. For electricity, call MPAS. Click here to find the MPAS service number for your area.

Can I change supplier in the middle of a contract ?

Unfortunately you cannot change supplier until the end of your contract and you must follow your supplier’s terms and conditions for terminating your contract (3 months’ notice is normally required) to be in a position to choose a new supplier.

How do I terminate my electricity or gas contract ?

Write to your supplier advising of your wish to terminate your contract. If you don’t have an address call your supplier and they’ll give this to you.

How long does it take to switch suppliers ?

It normally takes 28 days from the contract being accepted to the contract being registered. However, the switching process can vary depending on whether you are in contract or not.

Can I trust the information to be accurate and reliable ?

The data we use for our calculations come directly from the suppliers. We regularly monitor all suppliers and check if their service is reliable and accurate.

We update the supplier prices as soon as they change, to make sure you always have the most up-to-date quotes.

What is Half Hourly Metering ?

Half Hourly metering is only available to over 100kW sites. If you have a half hourly site you will pay a separate fee for this metering. The consumption is recorded every half hour and downloaded via the data aggregator, which is forwarded to your supply company.

What is Climate Change Levy (CCL) ?

The Climate Change Levy is a tax on the use of energy by business. The government introduced the Levy to encourage businesses to be more energy efficient, and to help combat the production of greenhouse gases. CCL is charged to all companies on their energy bills. However, the Levy is exempt on most green energy supplies. Business Energy Switch can help you contract CCL exempt green energy.
