GDF Suez has purchased its first wind farm in the UK

GDF Suez has purchased its first windfarm project in the UK.  The site at Craigengelt near Stirling in Scotland has full planning consent and pre-construction work is well underway.  The project was developed by Scotia Wind (Craigengelt) Limited, which has now been acquired by GDF SUEZ.

The windfarm is expected to fully operational by early 2010, and negotiations with turbine manufacturers are at an advanced stage.  The facility will comprise eight turbines generating up to 24MW of electricity, effectively preventing the release of more than 47,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year.  The Craigengelt site was chosen for its consistently good wind speeds.

GDF SUEZ ENERGY UK has already signed agreements to purchase the entire output from two major windfarms in Scotland.
